Canada luxury SUV sales chart April 2014
Between 2007 and 2011, Acura averaged 280 RDX sales per month. With the brand's car division underperforming, the RDX and MDX have become the brand's key products. The ZDX is dead.

Through the first one-third of 2014, the Audi Q5 leads the Lexus RX, BMW X5, and Acura RDX in Canadian sales, though only by the smallest of margins. Q5 sales dipped in April, as did sales of BMW's two smallest X models, Mercedes-Benz's GLK, and Volvo's XC60. As a result, sales of entry-level premium brand crossovers slid 13%. April marked the third consecutive month, and the fourth in five months, in which sales of these nine utility vehicles suffered from decreased volume. 2013 calendar year sales were up 9%.

Their bigger brethren, however, are making headway. The VW Group sold 659 Audi Q5s, Porsche Cayennes, and Volkswagen Touaregs in April, a 21% jump. The Range Rover Sport is steadily becoming more popular, as well.

This week, Cadillac's SRX is visiting GCBC Towers. SRX sales have improved, year-over-year, in 13 of the last 16 months. Like the Lexus RX, the SRX straddles a line between the entry-level crossovers like Audi's Q5 and the bigger, more costly Audi Q5-type crossovers. SRX pricing starts in the low $40s, but our test SRX rings in around $66K.

GCBC isn't here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better, right? This explains you'll see the XC70 listed with luxury cars as well as with SUVs and crossovers and the Touareg with luxury SUVs and mainstream SUVs... because readers have wanted it both ways. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.
