Combined sales of the BMW 3-Series, Canada's top-ranked premium brand automobile in June, and the BMW 4-Series, Canada's 12th-ranked premium brand automobile in June, jumped 23% to 1451 units.
That's nearly twice as many sales as any other individual premium brand nameplate managed. Audi Q5 sales jumped 20% year-over-year to 763 units.

Regardless, the 4-Series continues to be the far more popular two-door BMW family. (BMW is starting to sell an Audi A5 Sportback-like 4-Series Gran Coupe with four doors, however.) BMW Canada only sold 88 copies of the 2-Series in June.
The 2er's entry-level competition features more doors and, in the form of the Mercedes-Benz CLA and Audi A3, attract far more buyers. Mercedes-Benz sold a monthly average of 373 CLAs in the second quarter of 2014, up from 179 in the previous seven months. Audi sold 276 A3s in June, and all 675 A3s sold so far this year found homes in the second quarter, after the A3's hiatus ended.
Audi Canada's base price for the A3 is $31,100; the CLA starts at $34,300; the 2-Series at $36,000. Among vehicles with base prices above $50,000, the most popular vehicle in June was the Mercedes-Benz M-Class. This was just the second month since September of last year that something other than the BMW X5 led all $50K+ vehicles.

$50,000 CDN (before delivery) is an arbitrary borderline, but if GCBC was to follow this new system of designating only expensive vehicles as luxury vehicles, $50K seemed like a safe place to begin - it equals the average U.S. new car transaction price plus $15,000, plus another $5000 to account for Canadian increases. Plenty of less expensive vehicles with specific models feature prices above $50,000 - M, RS, and AMG models come to mind, specifically - but in the case of this list, we know that none of the registrations were of cars priced at $35,900, as would be the case with the BMW 320i, which costs less than a Hyundai Santa Fe 2.0T Limited. The biggest problem with a $50,000 minimum price of entry? Cars like the Cadillac XTS, which starts at $49,440, sporty cars like the $49,500 Audi TT, and SUVs like the $49,990 Acura MDX and $49,565 Chevrolet Tahoe. Volkswagen recently increased the base Touareg's price to $50,975; GM jacked up the base Yukon price up to $51,090.
The new Cadillac CTS sedan's base price is above $50,000, but not the base price for other cars in the CTS lineup. Yet. Total CTS sales in June: 85, up 19.7%.
Total Infiniti G/Q50/Q60 volume: up 92.7% to 343 in June; up 60.5% to 1965 YTD.
