Midsize Car Sales In America - November 2014 YTD

2015 Chevrolet Malibu
Not for the first time in 2014, U.S. midsize car sales fell flat in November 2014. The 1% slide last month came despite a 155% rise in sales of the Chrysler 200 - and a 41% overall increase in Chrysler Group midsize sales - and a 97% boost from the Subaru Legacy.

Yet the best-selling cars in the category, which also happen to be most of America's best-selling cars overall, were not as successful in November 2014 as they were one year earlier. The Toyota Camry was down 5%, although sales are up 5% so far this year. The Honda Accord was down 7%, although Accord sales are up 7% this year.

The Nissan Altima was also down 7%. Ford Fusion volume slid 11%, the Fusion's decline since April of this year.

With declines from the best sellers and the typical family's increased interest in small SUVs, the Honda CR-V was the top-selling non-pickup truck in America in November 2014 a position normally held by either the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. Sales of CR-V-class SUVs and crossovers jumped 16% to more than 200,000 units in November 2014.

GCBC isn't here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better. This explains why you'll see the Outback and Venza listed with midsize SUVs, too... because readers have wanted it both ways. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.
