BPCC: Dramatic day of racing expected at Zwartkops

Audi South Africa Press Release

The Super Series is eight rounds of racing from 1 March to 1 November. Eight rounds of competition over a nine month period with racers trying to collect as many points as possible.

The Zwartkops event on Saturday, August 30, is round six of the 2014 Bridgestone Production Car Championship, with the series reaching a critical point in the season. There are four Audi S4 quattro competitors contesting Class A, from two different teams.

The lead racer is defending champion Michael Stephen (A1 – Engen Xtreme) who currently holds second place in the points standings. Stephen has a manageable 20 point gap to the leading racer – with 30 points available on a race day, excluding bonus points, and three race days left he maintains a strong position in the battle for the title.

Gennaro Bonafede (A32 – Audi Sasolracing) holds third place, trailing Stephen by 24 points and giving Audi two of the three overall podium standings in the championship. Bonafede has been chipping away at the leaders throughout the season, slowing closing the gap and is now consolidating his position within the championship to end the year amongst the leaders.

The Audi S4 quattro of Simon Moss (A38 – Engen Xtreme) has been working hard as a learning tool all season. The Zwartkops event marks the first event this season that Moss will take to a track he has already raced in the Bridgestone Production Car Championship and he is now concentrating on increasing the pace and fighting for the front of the field.

Hennie Groenewald (A8 – Audi Sasolracing) will be aiming to build on the work he did at Phakisa in the previous round with his new Audi S4 quattro. Groenewald did not have much time for setup and made use of the Phakisa event to get his Audi S4 quattro up to pace as quickly as possible. The Zwartkops event should see Groenewald back in the thick of the action with a setup that will make him a serious contender on the day.
